Thursday May 24th, Registration 6.45pm @ Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), Filton Road, Bristol BS34 8QZ
BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, is committed to making IT good for society. We use the power of our network to bring about positive, tangible change.
After the unparalleled success of the first two talks in the 2018 programme card, hot on its heels we are pleased to announce Talk 3. The series of talks continue the theme of “of now” technology subject matters and try to de-mystify some of these subjects and provide for objective commentary.
The third talk, supported by Hewlett Packard Enterprise, will focus on Big Data and will take place on Thursday 24th May at the Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), Filton Road, Bristol BS34 8QZ. This talk will be delivered by two representatives with varied experiences. Luke Kreczko, from the University of Bristol, will describe the fantastic world wide collaboration project that collects and analyses vast amounts of data from Large Hadron Collider experiments, and David Standingford will talk about big data in the world of simulation and modelling in engineering. Their brief biographies can be found below. More details on the talks can be found on the Bristol BCS website .
The session will start with registration at 6.45pm, talks starting at 7.15pm, followed by an hour of talks from our panel, followed by Q&A, with networking and drinks to finish by c.9pm.
The event is free of charge, but will require registration to ensure there are no capacity restrictions.
The BCS talks are scheduled to be held in various locations throughout Bristol, where the majority of members are located. The talks aim to appeal to both existing and new members, young and old, and broadly technical and non-technical. The content of future topics are being investigated based on feedback form previous events.
I do hope you can attend the talk – please register using the following link: – https://bcsbristol2405.eventbrite.co.uk

Luke Kreczko – Research Associate in the particle physics group at the University of Bristol
Luke Kreczko is a Research Associate in the particle physics group at the University of Bristol. Currently he spends his time on precision measurements and trigger studies at the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), simulation and software development at the Lux-Zeplin experiment, and maintenance of the Bristol Tier 2 computing site. As a passionate physicist and technologist he is part of an effort to modernise the way petabytes worth of physics data are analysed.
